Why I draw.........girls
Why I draw..........girls
I was reading a letter sent to a photography site that was written by an artist and it got me thinking.
In said letter the artist stated that drawing the female form made him happy. But, there were a lot of
people, upon seeing the nude figure in his art thought that it was "unnatural" or "freaky" that he did
that without it being for some sexual desire, or whatever. So, I began wondering why I draw the female
form and ended up scribbling about 3 pages of rambling thoughts......so I will sum it up and keep it short.
I like drawing cartoons. I like classic cartoons, which I would say in their simplest forms are all about curves,
lines, and shapes coming together to form something special. And when I look at a well thought out photograph
of a woman, I see curves, lines, and shapes. Yes, I said something that was well thought out......that looks
natural and comfortable, not stiff and forced. I get inspired when I see photos in catalogs, magazines, online,
or stuff on tv, as long as its not some piece of fluff thrown out with the whole point being that the girl is naked,
just to be naked.
When wanting inspiration for a piece of art, a shot of some "model" on all fours with her ass in the air
only inspires laughter and annoyance. Painting her bare ass green does not make it art. It makes it,
well........green. And it ends up being a pathetic attempt to create crap.
There are a few artists that I admire. I sometimes I wish I had their patience to create such great pieces
of art as they do. Be it a simple cartoon sketch made with the scrap of a busted pencil, or a lifesize
fantasy portrait made with the finest of paints.
If the person, yes I said person, in the photo is not comfortable, and has no say in what is going on, then
to me there is no point in even trying. I sometimes wonder, when looking at a photo, what thoughts are
going on behind the eyes of the model. And what part of the pose and the over all look of the shot was
from her point of view. Some of the best photos I have taken were not the final posed shot, but those
taken between poses when there was talking, relaxing, and laughing, and no expecting the flash to go off.
I draw girls because I respect and admire them in my own way. And whether i draw them naked or fully clothed,
it makes no difference too me. Some people may think that I only draw a naked cartoon girl because I have
some desire to touch them, or whatever. And maybe those that complain the most about the naked figure are
those that to have some sexual fantasy about it. I really don’t give a damn.
I take the challenge of the blank page and I use the curves, lines, and shapes to try and create something
that looks halfway decent. And the only "pleasure’ I get from creating is just that....the act of creating
itself. Be it a piece of art, a bit of writing, or whatever, creating something means that my imagination is
still working with me and I am keeping all annoying and stupid thoughts out of my head. When I create, I
feel good. When I am not creating, I am not always the greatest person to be around....haha
I draw, imagine, and create, to escape reality. And I draw cartoons because they are fun. And people
can take them as they wish, with their own opinions and thoughts. If they like it then its all good. If not.
then thats okay too. And now that I have nothing else to say, I am off to draw some curves.
